Well, not quite yet, but I’m on my way toward a year with the pair.
I’m not sure that this is my FAVORITE pair of AWs, but I am sure it’s a great one.
George is a high quality Japanese denim. It’s a bit slubby and a true deep, dark indigo warp with a contrasting white weft.
AW utilizes red and gold stitching in the construction of the pants to further contrast the dark indigo dye, and it’s a smart look. I think it will really please the eye over time, after the fabric has yielded some of the organic indigo dye.
I’ve been wearing the raw variety for two weeks and it’s breaking in to be an incredibly comfortable pair. Despite the softer than expected hand feel, they do give a genuine work wear appearance. Construction seems to be excellent and what is expected at this price point. I think this pair is up to the task of hard work, and looks the part as well.
I’d suggest the “ripe” or “antique” versions of the George if you’re impatient and want that “well worn” look from the jump because I think it’s going to take quite a bit of dedication to the pair to come up with the weathered good looks of those versions on your own. I think the ripe variant simulated approximately six months of wear and washes and the antiques approach a few years worth of ownership.
I’ve chosen to wear this pair for the 3rd Indigo Invitational - and international fade competition for raw denim enthusiasts and look forward to spending a year with George.
